5 stars because it was so good and well written..Another year back at Hailing Hall, what an adventure with Avis and his friends .
Like the other 2 books, once I started reading I couldn't stop. You just get sucked into the magical world.
I really enjoyed reading this book from beginning to end. You just have to keep reading to find out what Avis will get upto.
This book starts exactly where book 2 ended. And Avis has a horrible summer. I really felt for him. He's family tried to make him evil. And his siblings tried to perform a ritual of sorts to make him evil, with their plan backfiring, and creating a Golem. Finally he escapes to Hailing Hall.
A new year with some new characters. Like James , and Magisteer Hummingbird, the Balafontes and the Avis Golem. The best new character was Hummingbird, he was awesome! As well as Alvin the Avis Golem the Hero!
At times I would be reading the book and come across these really funny parts in the story and laugh to myself, I loved the humour.
What was different this time was when Avis fell under a love potion and a ritual done to make him evil, it was Evil Avis time. It was an interesting read.
What I also really liked was whatever they learned in their lessons with Hummingbird, the theory etc, they had to put it into practical use to help them in the end. Like turning into their animal parts and the new spells. And about the Golems, etc.
Oh, not forgetting one of the best part ever, the Vollumino, what a useful little friend of Avis, it really helped Avis out a lot. It was awesome.
As usual, in the ending we always get some mysteries and questions answered. As to what exactly was going on with the twins and James and Avis. How it was all planned out and things just came together in the end.
And finally we get an explanation about in the previous book why Jasper and Tina were in " love "
What a surprising ending. , when it comes to what Ernie Partington and what he's been upto as well as Burrows , it left me a bit confused as to why they were working with a certain someone... like why? And what's really going on? Poor Jasper, he got used and that turned everything around.. who's really good in that lot? Hummingbird is the only adult who seems to be on Avis's side. Like can they really trust him?
Well I hope we'll get more answers in book 4. Whenever it comes out , I'll be waiting to read it. If you've read the previous books about Avis Blackthorn, read this one too. It doesn't disappoint.. it's another adventure with Avis waiting for you.

Avis Blackthorn The Map of Infinity The Wizard Magic School Series Book 3 eBook Jack Simmonds Reviews
The author has/had a tiger by the tail with this installment; definitely the best of the series so far. Unfortunately, I have read Jack Simmonds has stepped away from the series so will not be writing anymore installments in the foreseeable future; which irritates me to no end. Perhaps it's OCD, or past experiences with uncompleted series, but one of my biggest pet peeves is any series type that has a set size/sequence/etc. where a creator pulls you in and gets you interested and then stops in the middle. With each book/installment in this series (3 books and a prequel) the writing and details have improved and been more engaging, enticing the reader to look forward to when the next is published; hopefully the author reconsiders not writing any more of Avis' adventures (at least until after Avis has left school, lol). To be honest, I will probably avoid purchasing any other books by this author that seem like they are part or could be part of another series that is not already complete (incomplete series/podcasts/etc. REALLY bothers me).
Not a standalone book as each book/prequel builds upon it's predecessor; but an excellent series for those not bothered by incompleteness/interruption ...

(The Wizard Magic School Series, Book 1), Avis Blackthorn and the Magical Multicolour Jumper (The Wizard Magic School Series, Book 2) Avis Blackthorn The Map of Infinity (The Wizard Magic School Series, Book 3) which just went thru thanks to freebie and took longer to show up on than goodreads for a change.
I know some think that it is reminiscent of Harry Potter, but to quote Agatha Christie/Hercule Poirot, there is nothing new under the sun...and I enjoy reading Simmonds, so for me, as always, it is 5 stars.
